Okaïdi Morocco closure risk: children’s clothing brand restructures
Hit by a serious crisis, the children’s clothing brand Okaïdi is drastically cutting back. While around a hundred stores are closing abroad, uncertainty looms over the future of stores operating in Morocco.
The IDKIDS group, owner of the brand, is attempting to restructure after filing for judicial receivership last February. According to information relayed by ICI Nord, this rescue plan will result in the elimination of 290 jobs and the closure of around sixty stores in France. On an international scale, the blow is severe with the planned closure of approximately 100 points of sale. The brand is thus confirming its definitive withdrawal from three structurally deficit-ridden European countries: Germany, Poland and Portugal.

To explain this setback, management cites the decline in birth rates, pressure on families’ purchasing power, the rise of second-hand clothing and aggressive competition from ultra fast-fashion. The challenge now is to measure the impact of this restructuring outside Europe. Okaïdi has several stores in Morocco, but the detailed list of affected subsidiaries abroad remains unknown, making it impossible to know whether Moroccan sites will be spared.
