Notorious Drug Kingpin "Messi of Hashish" Flees Spanish Authorities, Citing Death Threats

While he was released on bail and had to appear daily before the courts of Algeciras, Abdellah El Haj Sadek Membri, whose nickname is "Messi of Hashish", has decided to evade, citing the enormous police pressure he is under. He would have left a letter in which he explains himself...

In a letter deposited by his lawyer, the "Messi of Hashish" known for his great passion for football and the heights he has reached in drug trafficking, announced his willingness to disappear from the radar because the police pressure would have caused him depression.

He writes on this subject: "I communicate my decision to disappear for a certain time, for fear for my integrity and that of my family. All this because of the enormous police pressure to which I am subjected, which has become unbearable in recent times and prevents me from having a normal life". This letter, written by the 35-year-old Moroccan, was transmitted by his lawyer to the newspaper Europa which published it in its entirety.

Abdellah El Haj Sadek Membri was arrested in November 2017 (after a first escape). He is accused of drug trafficking, money laundering and belonging to a criminal organization. This Messi of another kind was released on bail (a bail of 80,000 euros which he therefore loses intentionally), on the notable condition of appearing daily before the judges until the date of his trial, in 2020.

In his letter, he claims: "I was the victim of a real ambush. A car followed me to the hotel where I was staying with my family, and I was physically harassed, fearing for my integrity to the point that the hotel security had to intervene." He also states that the police "incite" his relatives to "falsely accuse" him of committing illicit acts of which he would be totally innocent. Furthermore, we find in his words: "Every time I leave my home, I am afraid of being subjected to an unjust and arbitrary detention, because I know that police actions are formulated against me without any basis, with the sole purpose of hanging medals for having arrested the ’Messi of Algeciras’, for propaganda purposes only".

The one who was considered the leader of the largest hashish trafficking organization operating in Spain through the Strait of Gibraltar also points out: "I am a normal boy, I have never harmed anyone, at least not intentionally or directly, and I have apologized for my mistakes. Now I just need peace and to treat my depression." His lawyers claim that he no longer does anything illegal, either directly or indirectly, and that he no longer has any contact with the mafias.

It should be noted that he had kept his commitments by appearing daily before the courts of Algesiras until the sending of this letter on March 13.
