Northern Morocco: Surprise visit by Laftit, time for accountability on certain construction sites
Abdelouafi Laftit landed on Monday in Nador for an unannounced inspection of the Marchica construction sites. Faced with the accumulated delays on this structuring project, the Minister of the Interior is imposing an ultimatum on local officials: accelerate the pace or face immediate corrective measures.
The Minister of the Interior visited the site surrounded by a significant security apparatus, indicating the sensitivity of the issues addressed, reports Rue20. This unexpected trip directly targets the troubled projects of the Marchica agency. Abdelouafi Laftit held expanded meetings with elected officials and territorial officials to identify the causes of the current blockages.
The minister’s agenda includes a decisive meeting with the general manager. The objective is to review the latest developments on the various construction sites and remove the obstacles that hinder their progress. The tone adopted is firm: the central administration expects concrete results and the imperative respect of deadlines, hinting at possible decisions to restructure the failing implementation bodies.
This takeover concerns the entire strategic vision for the Oriental region. Beyond the tourism aspects, the visit includes the inspection of the infrastructure and urban planning necessary to transform Nador into an industrial and logistics hub. The State seeks to resolve the challenges of financing and connection to equipment to avoid these delays from compromising the economic development of the region.
