Police and Gendarmerie in Morocco: Pay Your Fines by Debit Card

No more stress about not having cash on you during a traffic stop? This is the stated objective of the Interior Department, which wishes to accelerate the digital transition of the administration. In response to a written question, the minister specified that the General Treasury of the Kingdom and the National Road Safety Agency (NARSA) are currently collaborating to deploy these terminals on a large scale. The ambition is threefold: to simplify the lives of drivers, to secure transactions by limiting the handling of cash, and to guarantee total transparency of collections.

This initiative is part of a modernization strategy that has been underway for several years. The minister recalled that important milestones have already been reached with the introduction of multi-channel payment. Today, offenders can already pay their fines through bank branches, local agencies, or the Treasury’s web portal, while benefiting from the legal reductions related to compliance with payment deadlines. The arrival of physical EPTs in the hands of ticketing agents would be the final step in this dematerialization process.

Concretely, this system would allow for an instant and secure payment by debit card as soon as the offense is observed. For the State, this means better traceability of financial flows and complete digital integration between the report and the collection. For the user, this offers a considerable time saving and the assurance of benefiting from the flat-rate reductions without having to go later to an administration or a counter, often crowded.
