Newly Opened Casablanca Bridge Sparks Safety Concerns as Columns Show Unusual Movement
An abnormal movement was noticed at the level of some concrete columns of the cable-stayed bridge of Sidi Maarouf, causing panic among motorists who fear a risk of the immense structure collapsing. The Wali of Casablanca has, as planned, opened the bridge to traffic.
Several motorists have shared their concern on social media, calling for an investigation to determine the reasons behind these abnormal movements of the concrete columns of the Sidi Maarouf bridge.
This glitch comes as the road axis is experiencing major disruption, especially during the month of Ramadan when traffic becomes virtually impossible, especially in the morning and late afternoon. Endless traffic jams that are starting to annoy Casablancans, unable to contain their irritation at the delay in opening the Sidi Maarouf cable-stayed bridge.
In a statement yesterday to the Telquel website, the Wali of Casablanca, Said Ahmidouch, announced the opening for this Friday of this bridge that Casablancans have had to wait for many years and which was supposed to be inaugurated more than a year ago.
Requiring an investment of 588 million dirhams, the project aims to improve urban mobility conditions, ensure the proper functioning of the intersection with the passage of the tramway, ensure a fluid connection of the Mohammed V Airport axis and the various business centers of the area, and improve pedestrian circulation conditions.
