Nayef Aguerd prioritizes loyalty over ambition

While Moroccan international Nayef Aguerd caught the eye of several Premier League clubs as well as Saudi Arabian clubs this summer, he preferred to continue his adventure at West Ham. But Manchester City plans to recruit him during the next summer transfer window.
Manchester City is monitoring Nayef Aguerd with a view to a possible recruitment next summer, reports The Sun, noting that the English club admires the talented defender but has no pressing need to recruit another central defender. The Skyblues leaders tried to recruit Lucas Paqueta, another of West Ham’s recruits from last summer, but the transfer fell through following the opening of an FA investigation targeting the Brazilian international.

Arrived at West Ham in June 2022 from Rennes as part of a £26.7 million contract, Nayef Aguerd has delivered fine performances in London. He notably scored the only goal of the match pitting his club against Southampton in April in the 25th minute of play, thus saving his club from relegation. The Hammers had gone from 19th to 14th place, which allowed them to get out of the red zone. The 27-year-old player also helped his club win the Europa Conference League. He is one of the architects of the exceptional and historic journey of the Moroccan team at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
During the summer transfer window, several Premier League clubs expressed interest in the Atlas Lion. But he preferred to stay in London. The Moroccan defender also said no to Saudi money. A mark of loyalty from the one whose contract with West Ham expires in the summer of 2027.
