National Strike Disrupts Flights at Belgium’s Charleroi Airport

Flights by Air Arabia Maroc, EasyJet, SWISS, Helvetic Airways, TUI, Ryanair, Vueling, KLM, British Airways, Air Europa, Air Canada, United Airlines and many other airlines departing from and arriving at Charleroi airport have been cancelled. The cancellation is due to a national strike in Belgium.
A one-day strike is being organised on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 by the FGTB union to demand more support in the face of rising energy prices and falling purchasing power. As a result, the scheduled flights at Charleroi have been cancelled.
"Due to the national strike on November 9, 2022, the 120 commercial flights departing and arriving have been cancelled. All passengers will be informed by their airlines. It will not be possible to access Terminal 1. Brussels-Charleroi Airport regrets this situation and apologises to the 20,000 passengers affected for the inconvenience," a statement said.
For its part, Brussels-Zaventem has proceeded with a preventive cancellation of more than 55% of its flight schedule. This decision "aims to avoid too long queues and delays on the day itself. The passengers concerned will be personally contacted by their airline," the platform points out. It also asks passengers to carry only hand luggage.
