Strike Disrupts Charleroi Airport: All Outbound Flights Cancelled, Thousands Affected

A social movement is paralyzing Charleroi airport this Tuesday. Due to a strike by security personnel, Charleroi airport is forced to cancel all outbound flights, including four to Morocco.
The airport, which issued a press release on Monday, states that 89 flights were scheduled to depart on Tuesday, involving around 16,000 passengers. These passengers must be contacted by their airline for a rescheduling of their flight or a refund. The airport spokesperson recalled that this week coincides with the autumn holidays in French-speaking Belgium, and that many flights were fully booked.
While outbound flights are cancelled, inbound flights are maintained, although the airport advises travelers to check with their airline. Last-minute changes, such as flight diversions, are indeed possible.
This strike is part of a broader protest movement initiated on October 1st by unions in the security and cleaning sectors. They are demanding better working conditions and fairer wages, denouncing the lack of social dialogue by employers. "The cup is full," reads a union leaflet.
Charleroi airport has already announced that it will "do everything" to return to normal operations as of Wednesday.
The cancelled flights on Tuesday, October 22nd are:
• Nador - Ryanair - 6:30 am
• Tangier - Ryanair - 11:00 am
• Fez - Ryanair - 11:20 am
• Marrakech - Ryanair - 8:10 pm
