Muslim School in Béziers Ordered to Close Over Safety Violations

The prefecture of Hérault ordered, on Wednesday, the closure of a Muslim school belonging to the mosque of Béziers.
The school located in the same building as the El Houda mosque in Béziers must close its doors, according to the decree which cited non-compliance with the regulations governing establishments open to the public (ERP), reports Midi Libre.
The establishment was dedicated to religious education and welcomed 47 students aged 7 to 11, the newspaper specifies, stating that this decision was taken following an inspection conducted by the sub-prefect of Béziers.
"This unannounced check revealed a characterized non-compliance with the regulations: defective electrical installations, lack of fire alarm and fire-resistant doors, insufficient emergency exits, etc.," said Hugues Moutouh, the prefect of Hérault.
Questioned on the subject, the mayor of Béziers, Robert Ménard, declared that "the class whose existence was known to everyone, will reopen its doors when all the requested works have been carried out and after a new visit of the safety commission."
