Valencia Reverses Decision on Muslim School Land Sale Amid Controversy
Tuesday 4 October 2022, by
The Valencia city council went back, on Monday, on its decision regarding the sale of land for the construction of a Muslim school. The operation was finally canceled for urban planning reasons. The association Valeurs et Réussite, the initiator of the project, denounces discrimination and plans to appeal.
This decision comes three months after the agreement reached between the association and the same elected officials. The council had decided to sell the association a municipal plot of land located in Fontbarlettes.
The day after the agreement, a link between the association and the Muslim Brotherhood was mentioned. An unfounded accusation, the municipality had defended. Faced with the situation, the prefect of Drôme had demanded the cancellation of the procedure. On Monday, the LR mayor of the city, Nicolas Daragon, announced that "the State has changed its mind and has provided different elements before and after the sale, forcing the city to go back on its decision."
Informed, the association Valeurs et Réussite speaks of discrimination. Its president, Mourad Jabri, even evokes a "betrayal" on the part of the mayor of Valencia who accedes to the request of the prefect when they have "worked together for two years on this project". He filed a complaint against X for discrimination on Tuesday, October 4.
