Far-Right French Politician to Face Trial for Defamation Against Muslim School

Marion Maréchal, far-right European deputy, will be tried before the Valence criminal court for defamation against a Muslim association. She faces up to 12,000 euros in fines.
Legal troubles for Marion Maréchal. Indicted on Tuesday for defamation after her remarks against the association "Valeurs et Réussite", which manages the Muslim school in Valence, she will soon be tried before the Valence criminal court, reports francebleu. The far-right European deputy risks up to 12,000 euros in fines.
The French justice system blames the Identité-Libertés party member for statements made in October 2023 on the CNews set. She had indeed established a direct link between the "Valeurs et Réussite" association and the Muslim Brotherhood. "In Valence, you have a mayor who tried to sell land to a Muslim Brotherhood association," she had declared. On January 3, 2024, the association filed a complaint against Marion for defamation.
The association’s lawyer, Jean-Yves Dupriez, expressed his satisfaction after the indictment of the European deputy. "This trial must have significant repercussions on the way we can publicly treat people as "Muslim Brothers" and have links with terrorists," he estimated.
