Montpellier Muslim Institute Shut Down for Unauthorized Child Care

The Al Cham Institute, a Muslim religious establishment located in Montpellier, has been closed following an unannounced administrative inspection carried out by the prefecture. The authorities found that the establishment was illegally hosting underage children under the age of six without authorization.
The prefect of Hérault, Hugues Moutouh, decided to close the Al Cham Institute following the inspection carried out by the departmental youth, engagement and sports service. This operation made it possible to note that the establishment was hosting minors without authorization, which constitutes, according to the authorities, a serious offense.
Given this illegality and the risks incurred by the minors, the prefect of Hérault has taken a decree to interrupt the collective reception of minors within this renowned institute in Montpellier. This decision was made in the interest of the safety and protection of children, says the Prefecture. It was also requested that the mayor of Montpellier immediately close the structure, in accordance with his police powers.
