Muezzin Found Dead in Apparent Suicide at Mosque Near Marrakech

Drama in the Marrakech region where a muezzin, who officiated in a douar, committed suicide. The reasons for this act are not yet known.
According to the sources cited by the newspaper Assabah, the facts date back to last Monday when the muezzin hanged himself inside the mosque. On the morning of the tragedy, he had, as every day, launched the call to prayer. But he was expected just after the end of the prayer by the imam to close the mosque. Seeing that he was late, he went back inside and found him hanging from a rope.
Alerted, the auxiliary of authority quickly arrived on the scene, followed by the caïd, who then called the gendarmerie services. After the initial observations, the body was transported to the hospital for an autopsy.
80 years old, the muezzin had become very withdrawn, according to the testimonies collected by the newspaper.
