Mother Slams Belgian Justice System After 13-Year-Old Daughter’s Murder

Thursday 12 January 2023, by Prince

Nesrine, 34, mother of little Malak, 13, buried on Tuesday in the multi-denominational cemetery of Evere in Belgium, is angry with the Belgian justice system which did not know how to protect her daughter or take the appropriate measures against her murderer, a repeat offender well known to the judicial services.

Little Malak had temporarily lived with her father, in Liège, after running away and accusing her mother, who lives in Anderlecht, of mistreating her. "My daughter just wanted to go to her dad’s to play with her phone when she wanted to! I wanted to protect my daughter who is a teenager who is a bit lost, the police didn’t help me [...] They did a neighborhood investigation, they did an investigation at school, they saw that she had lied, that I hadn’t mistreated her. They told me: ’Madam, we know your daughter is lying, but we can’t do anything,’" explained Nesrine to Sud Info.

"I don’t understand Belgian law, I don’t understand anything, I really don’t understand, because I too am a victim and my daughter too, she is a victim and it’s been going on for a year. It’s really very serious, very, very serious... Me, I protected her for 12 years!" launches the mother of little Malak, full of anger, specifying that her daughter was not tempted by the 3,000 euros that the murderer, Olivier Theunissen, 37, was dangling in front of her on social networks. "Two weeks ago, she wanted to go to her dad’s and she got caught like that. The guy, he’s 37, he’s a pedophile, I have messages where he tells her: ’I’m like your brother, I’m married, I have children, I’m going to take you to Liège,’" she details.

And to continue: "Malak, she told me she had a friend who was going to take her to Liège, I told her: ’Malak, it’s not possible, me, I’ll take you and I’ll drop you off next to your dad’s door,’ but the dad didn’t want to, he had sent his sister-in-law to tell me he couldn’t receive her. The pedophile told her: ’Come, I’ll take you to see your dad.’ That’s how it happened. He’s a pedophile, she, she’s a Muslim who wears a headscarf, she didn’t know he was 37. He contacted her from a fake Snapchat account with a photo of a young boy, but I have no idea when they met: the messages delete after 24 hours."
