Morocco’s Ziyech Left Off National Team Due to Lack of Playing Time

The list of players called up for Morocco’s upcoming matches was unveiled this Friday by Walid Regragui. And, to the surprise of many, Hakim Ziyech is absent.
The non-selection of Hakim Ziyech for the next gathering of the Moroccan national team is explained by his lack of physical condition, said coach Walid Regragui. During a press conference held this Friday at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maamora, Regragui specified that the player of Al-Duhail SC, in Qatar, had not had enough playing time with his club.
The coach, however, recalled the importance of Ziyech for the team, stating that his place was assured as soon as he regained his usual level. "A player like Ziyech always brings added value," he said.
Regarding the central defense, Regragui indicated that he was looking for the ideal partner for Nayef Aguerd, hesitating between Jamal Harkass and Jawad El Yamiq, who is returning to the group. The preparation camp before the match against Niger will allow the best choice to be determined.
Walid Regragui also addressed the issue of dual-national players, mentioning the case of Bouaddi, whose international future remains undecided. He specified that he was working with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) on this file, but that his priority was the integration of the present players and the new call-ups.
Finally, the coach justified the call-up of Mehdi Benabid by his return to form. He also stated that he was not concerned about the performances of Munir and Yassine Bounou, stressing that he now had two high-level goalkeepers, an unprecedented situation for the national team. The choice of the starter will be made on the basis of merit. He recalled: "The national team did not previously have two high-level goalkeepers."
