Morocco's Young Lions Stumble but Advance in U-20 World Cup

Already assured of their qualification for the round of 16, the Moroccan under-20 team concluded their group stage with a narrow defeat (0-1) against Mexico, this Saturday, October 4 in Valparaíso.

This result, without consequence for the Atlas Lions who finish first in their group, has on the other hand allowed the Mexican selection to validate their own ticket for the next round.

For this match, coach Mohamed Ouahbi had chosen to rotate his squad extensively. The objective was to rest the starters for the round of 16 and to give playing time to the rest of the group, the main stake of the match being on the side of the opponent.

After a first half where the two teams failed to break the deadlock (0-0), the match tipped in the second half. In the 51st minute, Mexico obtained a penalty which was converted by Gilberto Mora. This sole goal proved decisive.

Despite Moroccan attempts to equalize, the score did not change. The two goalkeepers were vigilant on the opposing offensives. The match ended with this Mexican victory which ensures their qualification alongside Morocco.
