Morocco U17 team overturns the USA on penalties and advances to the round of 16

The Moroccan under-17 national team continues its journey at the World Cup in Qatar. At the end of a suspenseful match this Friday, November 14, the Atlas Cubs have secured their qualification for the round of 16 by eliminating the United States on penalties (1-1).

The match, counting for the round of 16, had nevertheless started badly for Nabil Baha’s protégés. The Americans opened the scoring in the 21st minute through Jude Terry. Despite their efforts, the Moroccans, lacking offensive efficiency in the final gesture, went back to the locker room with a goal behind.

The second half was a long tug-of-war. The United States tried to score a second goal, while the Atlas Cubs tried to come back, colliding with the excellence of the two goalkeepers. As the match seemed to be heading towards a Moroccan elimination, Abdallah Ouzzane emerged in the 90th minute to equalize with a shot from inside the box, sending the two teams to the fateful penalty shootout.

The penalty shootout ultimately smiled on the Moroccans, who thus validate their ticket for the round of 16 of the competition. They will face Mali there, who qualified on their side by beating Zambia 3-1.
