Morocco Stuns Brazil in U-20 World Cup Thriller, Secures Knockout Stage

The Moroccan under-20 national team has validated its ticket to the round of 16 of the World Cup in Chile in its second match. At the end of an intense and long-undecided match, the Moroccan players were able to make the difference in the second half to secure a place in the next round.

The Atlas Lions defeated Brazil 2-1 on Thursday, October 2 in Santiago. After a goalless first half, the situation was unlocked at the hour mark thanks to an acrobatic overhead kick by Othmane Maâma (60th). Yassir Zabiri then doubled the lead in the 76th minute.

The match was balanced, with both teams seeking to take the lead from the start, but coming up against vigilant goalkeepers. After taking a two-goal lead, Morocco was able to withstand the Brazilian pressure. The Seleção reduced the score from the penalty spot in stoppage time through Yaco, but could not prevent the Moroccan victory.

Thanks to this second victory in two matches, and taking advantage of the draw (2-2) between Spain and Mexico, the team led by Mohamed Ouahbi is mathematically assured of participating in the round of 16. Morocco will play its last group match on Saturday, October 4 against Mexico in Valparaíso.
