Morocco’s Young Lionesses Roar into World Cup History

The Atlas Lionesses defeated Costa Rica 3-1 in the final group stage match. This victory, obtained at the Stade Olympique de Rabat, allowed them to finish third in Group A and secure a place among the best third-placed teams qualified for the round of 16.

Anwar Mghinia’s players delivered a solid and combative performance. They opened the scoring very early in the match, as early as the 4th minute, thanks to a powerful shot from Mayssa Baha. Well organized defensively, they were able to manage the opposing pressure before doubling the lead through the same player, from the penalty spot, in the 39th minute.

In the second half, an own goal by the Costa Rican Fabiana Alfaro (77th) sealed the Moroccan victory, despite a late consolation goal by the visitors in stoppage time (90th+5). With three points, Morocco finished behind Italy (9 points) and Brazil (4 points), but this victory is enough for them to continue their adventure in this World Cup.
