Morocco’s World Cup Star Achraf Hakimi Honored in Mother’s Hometown

Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi, a key architect of the historic run of the Atlas Lions at the 2022 World Cup, was honored in the hometown of his mother, Ksar El-Kébir. On Tuesday, he was welcomed by thousands of residents who came to pay tribute to him and greet him.
Accompanied by his mother and brother, the Parisian full-back was the guest of honor at a ceremony organized in his honor. It took place at the municipal stadium of Ksar El-Kébir, which now bears his name. Achraf Hakimi was celebrated for his leadership and exploits during the competition.
On this occasion, thousands of people wanted to pay tribute to the son of the country. Hundreds of young children and teenagers, wearing the Moroccan national team jersey with Achraf Hakimi’s number 2, chanted "Siiiir Siiiiir Siiiir", "Hakimi, Hakimi, Hakimi." On the walls of the stadium, several murals of Achraf Hakimi and his mother were drawn by the artist Mokhtar Ghailane.
Expressing his joy, the Atlas Lion thanked the residents of Ksar El-Kébir for the honor. "I am happy to be here. Thank you Ksar El-Kébir for the welcome [...] I love you. Dima Maghrib" he declared, before confessing that he often went there, accompanied by his brother when he was younger.
