Morocco World Cup Prize Money: 19 Million Dollar Payoff

Reaching the quarterfinals of the World Cup allowed Morocco to receive one of the highest prize payments of the competition. The Atlas Lions rank in the second group of best-paid teams, behind the four semifinalists.

FIFA will pay 19 million dollars, approximately 16.7 million euros, to each of the teams eliminated in the quarterfinals: Morocco, Norway, Belgium, and Switzerland.

The amount rewards Morocco’s journey through the match lost 2-0 against France. Before this elimination, Morocco had advanced past the group stage, defeated the Netherlands on penalties, then dominated Canada in the round of 16.

The prize is awarded to the national federation. This does not mean that each player will directly receive an equal share of the amount, as the distribution depends on the rules and internal bonuses set by Moroccan officials.

The final four explodes the prize money

Prize amounts increase significantly from the semifinals onward. World champion, Spain receives 50 million dollars, approximately 43 million euros. Argentina, finalist, takes home 33 million dollars.

England, third after its victory against France, leaves with 29 million dollars, compared to 27 million for the Blues, ranked fourth.

Teams eliminated in the round of 16 receive 15 million dollars. Those eliminated in the round of 32 receive 11 million, while teams that did not advance past the group stage still obtain 9 million dollars.

With its 19 million dollars, Morocco thus gains eight million more than a team eliminated in the round of 32 and ten million more than a team eliminated in the first round. A significant financial compensation, despite the sporting disappointment of elimination.
