Morocco’s World Cup Journey Ends: Defender Reflects on Historic Run Despite France Defeat

Nouhaila Benzina shared her analysis of the performance of the Atlas Lionesses during the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. Despite a 4-0 defeat against France in the round of 16, the team made a sensation during the tournament.
The Moroccan defender also expressed her apologies to Moroccan fans, while highlighting the collective effort of the team. "We did our best, we fought for a positive result. [...] We will work to present a positive image in the next competitions," Benzina said to Arryadia, reiterating the team’s determination to continue to progress.
Despite their elimination in the round of 16, the performance of the Atlas Lionesses is historic. Their first participation in the World Cup was marked by a qualification for the round of 16, an unprecedented feat that bodes well for the future of women’s football in Morocco. They should also climb several places in the FIFA ranking.
