Morocco Aims to Upset Colombia in Crucial Women's World Cup Match

The Moroccan women’s national football team will face Colombia this Thursday in a decisive match for their qualification to the round of 16 of the World Cup.

At a press conference in Perth, national coach Reynald Pedros said the team was ready to "put the Colombians in difficulty" and would give everything to create the surprise, highlighting the importance of developing a "collective, united and supportive" game, the goal being to counter the opponent’s offensives.

After the defeat against Germany, the Moroccan team regained confidence and focused on the match against South Korea. Pedros highlighted the good conditions provided by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, with multiple training camps and friendly matches to strengthen the team’s competitiveness. He also emphasized the full expansion of Moroccan women’s football, mentioning the qualification for the final of the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Player Élodie Nakkach, for her part, expressed the determination of her teammates to give their best in this third match, in order to maintain their place in the competition. The player insisted on the evolution of women’s football and the change in mentalities, hoping that "it will not stop at this stage and that we will be able to create even greater victories."

The Atlas Lionesses will play against Colombia in the 3rd round of Group H, at the Nib Stadium in Perth. By participating in the 9th edition of the Women’s World Cup, the Moroccan selection became the first Arab team to reach the final phase of the Women’s World Cup, marking a historic milestone for women’s football in the region.
