Morocco Stuns Colombia, Advances to Women’s World Cup Round of 16

The Moroccan women’s national team has just written a new page in history by qualifying for the round of 16 of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, on Thursday, August 3, in Perth, Australia.
The Atlas Lionesses dominated Colombia 1-0, a victory made all the more important by the fact that the Colombians had previously defeated the defending champions, Germany.
The match was difficult for the Atlas Lionesses, but they never gave up. The Moroccans threatened several times, and in the 45th minute, Lahamari found the back of the net after a penalty that had been saved. The Colombians intensified their efforts in the second half, but Moroccan goalkeeper Khadija Er-Rmichi was decisive, repelling all attempts, including a powerful shot from Caicedo in the 73rd minute.
This historic victory, especially for a team participating for the first time in the World Cup, propels the Moroccans into the round of 16. The Atlas Lionesses will face France, a difficult team but within reach of Chebbak’s teammates.
