Morocco's World Cup Hero Saiss Reveals Secret to Historic Semi-Final Run

More than two weeks after the end of the 2022 World Cup, the defender of the Atlas Lions, Romain Saiss, looked back on the resounding feat of Morocco, revealing the secret of his coach Walid Regragui.

This competition was historic with the outstanding performance of the Moroccan team, the first African selection to reach the semi-finals. Injured in the thigh, captain Romain Saiss fought to the end to defend the national colors. Although he had tried to play against France, the former Le Havre player had to come out in the first half, unable to hold on. He was applauded by all the supporters present in the stadium.

In an interview with RMC, the Moroccan rock has talked about the preparation of the Atlas Lions, explaining the role played by the Moroccan technician, who arrived in his position last August. "Coach Regragui, when he arrived, he didn’t have a lot of time to prepare for this World Cup. His message and what he wanted for his team had to get across quickly."

And he added: "We exchanged a lot before the World Cup. He quickly immersed himself in the atmosphere. Everyone was aware of the importance of the event, with the little time we had to prepare. No one cheated, everyone made the effort, from the staff to the players."

However, Romain Saïss assures that this change of coach was risky. "It wasn’t a foregone conclusion. Everyone was going in the same direction, determined to do great things," he concluded.
