Morocco's World Cup Coach Regragui Given Full Control of National Team

A few weeks before the World Cup in Qatar, the new coach of the Atlas Lions, Walid Regragui, has been reassuring about the management of the national team. The leaders have given him free rein, he says, to carry out his mission peacefully.

Invited on Sunday on 2M, the national coach addressed several topics related to his work environment and the preparations for a good participation of the Moroccan team in the World Cup. Thus, the coach stated that he has very good relations with the FRMF, specifying that the working atmosphere is appropriate and in line with his tactical approach. "I received a ’blank check’ upon signing my contract in order to exercise all my powers without interference from anyone," he stressed.

Regarding the composition of the team list he is preparing for the World Cup, Regragui indicated that the names he has chosen are solely his responsibility, noting that if a player participates, it is his own choice, and if another player is excluded, it is also his decision.

As for this list, the national coach announced its publication two weeks or 10 days before the start of the event, noting that 60% of the names that will be on the list are ready, and the rest will be decided in the coming days. A friendly match is still planned before the start of the competition, he announced.

When questioned about the effectiveness of the national team’s offensive line, Regragui downplayed the issue, declaring: "Everyone says the problem in the national team is the attack, although we scored against Chile, and before that we scored goals with Halilhodzic, I believe the striker is not everything."
