Morocco’s World Cup Call-Up Swayed Cheddira from Italy National Team

Summoned for the first time to the national team by Walid Regragui as part of the preparations for the last World Cup, Moroccan international Walid Cheddira said that this call from the coach was decisive for the choice of his sporting nationality.
Like the Moroccan player, many dual nationals have opted for Morocco in a spontaneous wave. "I initially thought about representing the Italian national team, but as soon as the invitation from coach Walid Regragui came up, I didn’t hesitate and I accepted it," Cheddira said in an interview with the Italian site Fanpage.
Walid Cheddira lived his first World Cup with Morocco as a dream, especially with the memorable run of the Atlas Lions in Qatar. "It was a wonderful experience, indelible memories that I will never be able to erase. We did something extraordinary and that gives me the awareness and confidence to move forward and progress," he said.
Comforted by what happened in Qatar, he, like Achraf Hakimi, promises to contribute even more to the influence of the national team in the next competitions. "Each of us always has something to improve to be better. I will continue to work and follow this path to try to always do better."
