Morocco Clinches Third Straight African Futsal Title Despite AFCON Setback

Despite Morocco’s elimination by South Africa in the round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) held in Côte d’Ivoire, Moroccan football asserted itself in 2024.
The year 2024 will remain etched in the memory of Moroccan supporters. The exploits achieved will be able to make the defeat of the Moroccan team against South Africa (0-2) in the round of 16 of the CAN Côte d’Ivoire 2023 at the Laurent Pokou stadium in the city of San Pedro forgotten. The Moroccan futsal team beat its Angolan counterpart 5-1 in the final of the 7th edition, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah sports complex in Rabat and won the Africa Cup of Nations futsal title for the third consecutive time.
Last September, Hicham Dguig’s men participated in the Futsal World Cup. Morocco was eliminated by Brazil, five-time champion in its history (1989, 1992, 1996, 2008, 2012), in the quarter-finals. A few days earlier (in August), Morocco became the fourth African country to win a medal in Olympic football after Nigeria, Cameroon and Ghana, by easily beating Egypt (6-0, half-time: 2-0), in Nantes, in the small final.
