Morocco Welcomes 3.4 Million Tourists in First Half of 2023, Nearing Pre-Pandemic Levels

Between January and June last, there were 3.4 million tourists who visited Morocco, which is equivalent to 63% of arrivals over the same period before the health crisis, according to the Ministry of Tourism.
Responding to a question on the subject in parliament, Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor indicated that the flow of tourist arrivals has increased considerably in the first half of the year, specifying that for the month of June alone, the number of tourists reached 1.14 million, an increase of 5% compared to 2019.
At the end of May, the revenue generated by tourists amounted to 20 billion dirhams (MMDH), an increase of 173% compared to 2021, and a recovery rate of 71% compared to 2019, she specified.
Regarding domestic tourism, 51% of Moroccan tourists prefer beach tourism, 58% prefer to travel during school holidays and 60% prefer to travel as a family, while 72% are more interested in the price of tourist services.
The minister also stressed that in order to consolidate and increase its performance, her department is working to strengthen air connectivity, collaborate with international tour operators to promote the Moroccan destination, organize an international and national campaign, develop cultural, natural, ecological and outdoor tourism, and improve the quality of services and tourist animation as well as the training of human resources.
