Morocco Warns Foreign Schools Against Promoting Homosexuality, Minister Says

Chakib Benmoussa, Minister of National Education, Primary Education and Sports, spoke about the adoption by foreign educational institutions in Morocco of programs promoting homosexuality.
While homosexuality is prohibited and punished by law in Morocco, foreign educational institutions, particularly French ones, are promoting it. During a press conference on the developments of the school year, Chakib Benmoussa clearly stated the position of the kingdom on foreign educational programs promoting homosexuality. Morocco, he said, has clear laws and values that apply to all, including foreign educational institutions, and must be respected. Also, he assured that measures have been taken to ensure that these institutions respect national teachings. According to the minister’s explanations, it is the supplementary textbooks that sometimes pose a problem and not the main programs of these institutions.
Chakib Benmoussa also addressed the issue of the sale of books by some private schools. According to him, a contract would be drawn up to "prevent any institution from forcing families to buy books from them". The aim is to establish a transparent and clear relationship between private schools and families regarding rights and duties.
In another area, the minister assured that the process of generalizing the teaching of Amazigh is progressing with annual monitoring of results. As for the number of specialized teachers, it is increasing each year.
