Morocco Vows Warm Welcome for Algerian Team and Fans at African Cup of Nations Amid Political Tensions

In an interview with the newspaper L’Équipe, the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Faouzi Lekjaa, spoke about the preparations for the upcoming African Cup of Nations (CAN) men’s tournament to be held in Morocco.
When questioned about the specific issue of welcoming the Algerian delegation and supporters, given the context of political tensions between the two neighboring countries, the federation president provided a detailed response.
He stated: "His Majesty the King has repeated that we have always been a country that welcomes Algerians. On Moroccan territory, there are Algerian families who live and know the quality of this coexistence. The Algerian national team, supporters coming from Algeria or from all corners of the world, will be welcomed in a country that has always given them a warm welcome."
These remarks aim to clarify the Moroccan position as the competition represents a major sporting challenge for the kingdom. The national team, led by Walid Regragui, hopes to win a continental title on home soil, which has eluded Morocco since 1976.
