Morocco Upgrades Air Bases to Prepare for Advanced F-16 Fighter Jet Delivery

Morocco would consider carrying out certain work on two of its major air bases so that they are capable of accommodating the F-16 Block 72, the order for which was placed two years ago.
According to Defensa citing a source close to the US Air Force, the Benslimane air base (5th base of the Royal Air Force) is one of the two bases chosen for the upgrade work.
The work consists of equipping it with an aircraft arresting system, a safety management system, a cleaning area to test aircraft engines, in addition to a flight simulator. The same work will be undertaken at the Benguerir base (6th base).
These works must be completed before 2024, the year of receipt of the first F-16 Block 72. The acquisition of these aircraft cost Morocco nearly $4.7 billion.
