Morocco Unveils Plans for 50 Renewable Energy Projects at COP26

During the 26th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP26) being held in Glasgow, Morocco announced that it is working on the realization of 50 projects related to renewable energies with an installed capacity of 3,950 MW.

The kingdom is continuing its march towards the green economy in accordance with its international obligations. Present at the meeting with a Moroccan delegation, Aziz Akhannouch gave the assurance.

In his speech, the Head of Government reassured the audience that Morocco’s commitment to the dynamic of energy transition represents a voluntary political choice for the country, adding that the sectors of Research-Innovation and Energy constitute the strategic challenges of the future on which the New Development Model of the Kingdom rests, reports the MAP.

"In the continuity of these efforts and in order to accelerate the energy transition, several measures are being taken to develop biomass-energy, marine energies, and hydrogen," Akhannouch confided.

In this wake, the Prime Minister stressed that the kingdom has equipped itself with state-of-the-art research and innovation infrastructures in the field of clean energies, in order to support this energy transition.

As an example, he cited the Green Energy Park, which is a research and innovation platform in the field of technologies and the Green & Smart Building Park, a platform dedicated to energy efficiency in buildings, smart grids and electric mobility. Others are under development on hydrogen, biomass and the Agro-Energy-Water Nexus, as well as desalination.
