Morocco Unveils Alternative Youth Programs After Summer Camp Cancellations

Summer camps are not on the agenda this year. To fill the void, Othmane El Ferdaous, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, announces the development of an action plan. In terms of leisure and recreation, children and young people will not "be idle", he reassures.
The minister’s plan provides for the organization of several neighborhood animation programs, educational, recreational and socio-cultural activities in the vicinity. But first, there is a call for proposals for animation projects for children and adolescents. One of the flagship projects during the next vacation is to carry out the digital transformation. In this context, the ministry promises to ensure the achievement of territorial equity and the reduction of the digital divide. This is the goal of the "enfantsetculture.ma" platform for children aged 4 to 10 years old, which has been launched, to allow children to discover Moroccan culture and heritage.
This plan also includes a national program of workshops in urban and rural areas. It aims to mobilize more than 5,000 young people, in order to inject dynamism into public spaces and strengthen the spirit of citizenship and volunteering in these environments, explains the minister. This plan also provides for the realization of a national survey on the conditions of children, adolescents and young people during the confinement period.
The Minister of Youth also announces the launch of a national digital campaign. It is intended for adolescents and young people via social networks starting next July in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund, in order to discuss the health and safety of this category in the context of the post-confinement period. In addition, next September, depending on the improvement of the epidemiological situation and in consultation with the competent authorities, a session will take place. The associative executives working in the field of summer camps will be trained for this purpose.
