Morocco to Unveil New Housing Assistance Program for Homebuyers

The purchase of housing in Morocco could well experience a new boost. Fatima Zahra Mansouri, Minister of National Land Use Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and City Policy, hinted that new provisions were emerging to facilitate access to home ownership.
On Monday, during a question-and-answer session in the House of Representatives, Mansouri revealed that a decree, aimed at establishing a direct aid for the purchase of housing, is currently awaiting approval by the Council of Government. This measure, affecting both urban and rural areas, must respond to the specific characteristics of each municipality.
In addition, the minister acknowledged the existence of a problem related to the lack of housing in rural areas, generated by an imbalance between supply and demand. Despite the implementation of a housing program at 250,000 dirhams, only 719 units out of 6,052 were built by December 2022, she revealed.
Faced with this observation, the ministry has put in place a three-level strategy to solve this issue. First, the implementation of urban planning documents has been accelerated, to cover up to 84% of rural communities so far. Furthermore, Mansouri announced that the ministry had prepared 42 specific documents for the rural world during the years 2022/2023, and proceeded to simplify the procedures, in accordance with the recommendations resulting from the dialogue.
