Morocco Unites in Outpouring of Support Following Tragic Death of Young Rayan

The wave of solidarity shown in Morocco after the death of Rayan arouses admiration both inside and outside the kingdom.
People from all regions of Morocco have invaded the village of Igrhane (Chefchaouen) where the tragedy took place. During the four days of the rescue operation for Rayan, they were housed by the villagers. Some gendarmes even stayed in Rayan’s house, reports El Pais.

In this poor village, close to the Rif mountains, the populations live in extreme poverty. This is probably why many Moroccans have shown their solidarity with Rayan’s family, from the announcement on Tuesday of his fall into the dry well until the extraction of his lifeless body last Saturday.

In a message broadcast a few hours after the announcement of Rayan’s death, the Royal Cabinet presented the condolences of King Mohammed VI to the bereaved family. "His Majesty closely followed the rescue and gave his High instructions so that all possible efforts were made to save the boy. But the will of God is inexorable and the child has answered the call of the Most High," the Royal Palace said, thanking the Moroccan people for their wave of solidarity with Rayan’s family.
Since the extraction of the body and its transfer to Rabat for an autopsy, the village has gradually emptied. Everyone was quick to help the other to reach the nearest town, about 15 kilometers away, or to charge a cell phone.
