Morocco Traffic Accidents Surge: 15 Dead, Over 2,000 Injured in One Week

From April 3 to 9, 2021, Morocco recorded 1,654 traffic accidents that occurred in urban areas. Fifteen people were killed and 2,239 others injured, including 69 seriously.
According to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), several reasons are behind these accidents: failure to respect priority, inattention of drivers and pedestrians, speeding, failure to respect the safety distance, unauthorized or unsignaled lane changes, lack of vehicle control, failure to stop at stop signs, traffic lights, driving in the wrong direction, and defective overtaking.
Regarding the offenses, the police services recorded 33,093 tickets and issued 5,250 reports submitted to the public prosecutor’s office, while 27,843 transaction fines were collected, i.e. 5,721,600 dirhams received, the MAP added, stating that 3,910 vehicles were impounded in the municipal pound, 5,250 documents were seized and 70 vehicles were taken off the road.
