Morocco Tourism Surpasses Diaspora Remittances in 2026
Tourism revenues exceeded transfers from Moroccans living abroad during the first five months of 2026. Tourism generated 53.8 billion dirhams, compared to 50.2 billion sent by the diaspora.
Between January and May 2026, travel receipts increased by 14.6% compared to the same period in 2025. They rose from 46.9 to 53.8 billion dirhams.
Diaspora transfers also increased, but at a slower pace. They reached 50.2 billion dirhams, compared to 46.2 billion a year earlier, representing a 8.8% increase.

According to indicators published by Bank Al-Maghrib, the gap between these two sources of foreign currency thus reaches nearly 3.5 billion dirhams in favor of tourism.
The overtaking is therefore not explained by a decline in diaspora remittances, but by faster growth in tourism revenues since the beginning of the year.
