MRE transfers Morocco 2026 record 40 billion dirhams
Transfers from Moroccans living abroad continue to grow. By the end of April 2026, they reached nearly 40 billion dirhams, confirming once again the financial weight of the diaspora in the Moroccan economy.
Moroccans living abroad sent 39.979 billion dirhams to Morocco during the first four months of 2026, according to the latest monthly indicators from the Office of Exchange. A year earlier, these transfers amounted to 36.426 billion dirhams.

The increase thus reaches 9.8% year-on-year, representing an increase of 3.553 billion dirhams compared to the same period in 2025. This level confirms the central role of MREs in currency inflows to Morocco, alongside other important items such as tourism revenues.
This increase comes in a context marked by an improvement in travel receipts, which have also progressed strongly over the first four months of the year. Travel receipts reached 44.392 billion dirhams by the end of April 2026, compared to 36.612 billion a year earlier, an increase of 21.2%.
MRE transfers remain a particularly monitored indicator, as they reflect both the economic link maintained with the country of origin and the direct contribution of MREs to supporting families, consumption and, in some cases, investment.

Despite the deterioration of the trade deficit, which widened to 127.045 billion dirhams by the end of April 2026, revenues from MREs and tourism help strengthen foreign currency inflows. They thus constitute two essential pillars of Morocco’s external balance.
