Morocco’s Tourism Industry Plans Recovery Strategies Amid COVID-19 Losses

The tourism sector in Morocco remains one of the most affected by the current health crisis, with huge losses estimated at billions of dirhams, according to the National Confederation of Tourism (CNT). The revival of the sector remains a priority for tourism professionals, who are already starting to think about the post-covid-19 era.
Even if for the majority of professionals, it is still too early to talk about recovery, "it is nevertheless time to start studying the different avenues for recovery," says Othmane Chérif Alami, CEO of Atlas Voyages. For him, Morocco must follow the trends of its client markets and border movements, because "the recovery will depend on air capacity and the opening of borders." He is nevertheless convinced that tourism will regain its growth within 3 to 5 years.
For Hamid Bentahar, president of the Marrakech Regional Tourism Council, "it is still too early to talk about recovery, because the most important thing today is the health of Moroccans," he says. Rachid Dahmaz, president of the Agadir Regional Tourism Council, for his part, assures that it is essential to start preparing for the post-crisis period. He believes it would be good to work on two fronts, including domestic tourism, with a fairly attractive pricing policy, and internationally by supporting tour operators and airlines.
