Morocco’s Top COVID-19 Official Remains in Post Despite Resignation Rumors

The director of the Epidemiology Department, Mohammed El Youbi, has not resigned. A senior official at the Ministry of Health, he led the press conferences every afternoon on new coronavirus cases in Morocco.
Unknown to the public a few years ago, Mohammed El Youbi has established himself through his oratory skills and his mastery of the subject he presented to television viewers, reports Le 360. His advice to protect against covid-19 was also appreciated by the public.
Absent from the screens for a few days, several rumors have announced his resignation. While some cite his conflict with the supervising minister over the measures to be taken to successfully deconfine, others believe that his opposition to the latter on the management of the quarantine of Moroccans repatriated from abroad was partly to blame.
According to the same media, Mohamed El Youbi has not resigned, contrary to what has been circulated on social networks. "Mr. Coronavirus" has simply asked to rest for a week, after two months of "hard work," the same media also specifies.
