Morocco's Health Officials Clash Amid COVID-19 Crisis

Nothing is going well between the Minister of Health, Khalid Aït Taleb and the Director of the Epidemiology Department, Mohamed El Youbi, responsible for providing the daily assessment of the covid-19 situation in the kingdom.

El Youbi would have refused three times in a row to present the daily reports of the coronavirus in Morocco and orally presented his resignation from his position as director of the Epidemiology Department at the Ministry of Health, reports Hespress. The Minister of Health, Khalid Aït Taleb, would not have accepted his resignation due to the health crisis the country is going through.

"The Minister of Health is trying by all means to put pressure on El Youbi to get him to withdraw his resignation presented orally," says Akhbar Al Maghrib. The Minister of Health has recently faced criticism "after denying what he had stated about the repatriation of Moroccans stranded abroad and involving the king in this matter".

Citing sources from the ministry, the newspaper claims that Mohamed El Youbi is harshly critical of the minister’s policy and communication method around the management of the new coronavirus epidemic and the transactions concluded by the ministry to equip hospital centers with equipment and products. Executives from the Directorate of Medicines have also been highlighted after these transactions.
