Morocco Tightens Security Measures Ahead of Eid al-Fitr to Curb COVID-19 Spread

To curb the coronavirus pandemic in Morocco, the authorities plan to tighten security during Eid Al-Fitr. No laxity will be tolerated during this sensitive and high-traffic period.
According to the daily Al Massae, the security operations, carried out daily to impose the state of health emergency, will be further strengthened and control patrols will be multiplied in neighborhoods, urban perimeters and rural areas.
Instructions have therefore been given to the various security officials to take all appropriate measures to ensure continuous control service in cities, villages and countryside. In addition, travel between cities will be prohibited, except with authorization from the competent authorities, for well-defined cases. In this regard, access to cities, villages and other highway axes will be controlled in rural areas and urban perimeters.
According to the same daily, mobile brigades will also be deployed to reinforce the fixed security checkpoints. Through this redeployment, the authorities want to strengthen the system already in place as part of the state of health emergency and the general lockdown decreed in the country since March 20, to fight against the pandemic.
The competent authorities, who have proceeded with this reinforcement of control, want to reduce the coronavirus contamination rate during this Eid Al-Fitr period, especially since several companies will resume their activities after this religious holiday.
