Morocco Tightens Controls on Ammonium Nitrate Following Beirut Blast Concerns

Strengthen control over the trade and use of ammonium nitrate. This is what the central services of the Ministry of the Interior, through a note, are alerting the local authorities and the police services throughout the Kingdom.

Ammonium nitrate is a chemical compound well known to Moroccans. It is the same one that has mourned and caused countless damage in the recent explosion at the port of Beirut.

It is used in the manufacture of homemade explosive devices used in terrorist attacks. And this is precisely the meaning of the security services’ alert for the strengthening of the control of the use and sale of this compound, as well as other chemical substances such as sulfur or hydrochloric acid. It is necessary to prevent these products from falling into the hands of terrorist circles, indicates the daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia

The strengthening of the control of the distribution network of these three products comes after the BCIJ services neutralized a particularly dangerous terrorist cell of five members. Aged 29 to 43, they were arrested in four different cities in possession of sufficient quantities of these chemicals, carefully hidden in the parking lot of a building in Témara to make explosive devices.

They are prosecuted, among other things, for attempted premeditated murder, collection and management of funds intended for terrorist acts, glorification of terrorist acts and glorification of a terrorist organization, according to the same source.
