Morocco Tightens Border Security with Ceuta to Deter Migrant Crossings

To prevent any future attempt at massive entry of migrants into Ceuta, Morocco has taken drastic measures at its borders.
The objective is to make this route impractical in order to deter any potential immigration candidates. The Moroccan authorities plan to do the same on the Benzú side where an impassable barrier of accordions will also be set up, reports El Faro de Ceuta, specifying that the Spanish authorities have already been informed of these new measures.
Three weeks after the unprecedented migration crisis, which occurred after the mass arrival of migrants in Ceuta, Morocco is thus strengthening border controls with the implementation of these devices. The first will be on the Tarajal side where the reinforcement of the security personnel has already been observed in recent days.
For its part, Spain has also reinforced the number of its military personnel on the borders, but has not planned any specific actions in the area, apart from the ongoing work at the Tarajal border, which is progressing with delay.
Morocco’s attitude of allowing thousands of migrants to enter Ceuta has been criticized by the European Union and some countries like France.
