Morocco Tests New Israeli Rocket System Amid Regional Tensions

Morocco is strengthening its deterrence capability in a context of growing regional tensions. The Royal Armed Forces (FAR) have just tested the operationality of the Israeli PULS multiple rocket launcher system recently acquired from the Israeli manufacturer Elbit Systems.

In an Elbit Systems video, a rocket is seen hitting its target, a used truck of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), located 150 km away. "The sequence confirms that the PULS multiple rocket launcher system is now fully operational. It has been fully delivered to Morocco, just like the Barak MX system," says Abdelhamid Harifi, a military consultant for Médias24.

The expert highlights the responsiveness of the Israeli industry compared to the American one. "The delivery time (of the PULS) did not exceed 6 months," he said. "This is one of the major advantages with Israeli manufacturers: the speed in executing contracts, unlike the administrative, logistical and industrial heaviness of our American partners." For the record, Morocco has ordered American HIMARS which are scheduled for delivery by the end of 2027.

With the PULS system, Morocco is strengthening its deterrence capability, pending the HIMARS. "The choice of the PULS responds to a clear desire to strengthen Morocco’s deterrent force, faced with a worrying rise in verbal hostilities from Algeria," develops Harifi, stressing that the kingdom is preparing for any possible armed attack. "We are not a warmongering country, but we are equipping ourselves to be ready if war is imposed on us."

Morocco "has opted for the entire range of missiles and rockets offered for this system, with ranges that can reach up to 300 km," adds the expert, specifying that this "surgical weapon" is capable of hitting strategic military and civilian targets such as "fuel depots, air bases and anti-missile defense systems."

To date, the FAR have two types of multiple rocket launchers: the Chinese PHL-03/AR2, with a range of 140 km, and the Israeli PULS with a range of 300 km. Added to the American HIMARS awaiting delivery, they offer Morocco "strategic firepower, increased mobility and a massive deterrent tool" and strengthen "the projection and defense capabilities of the Royal Armed Forces," notes the expert.
