Morocco Targets 3.2% Economic Growth in 2022 Amid Recovery Efforts

In a framing note, Prime Minister Saâd Dine El Othmani has set a growth rate target of 3.2% for 2022. The unveiled PLF will be based on the assumption of an average butane gas price of $450/tonne and an average cereal harvest of 70 million quintals.
According to the note, the Prime Minister is counting on a strengthening of the economic recovery in the second half of this year thanks to the economic upturn in certain sectors, the sustained pace of vaccination and the momentum created by the return of Moroccans living abroad.
These relaunching factors, combined with the exceptional cereal harvest of 103 million quintals recorded this year, make it possible to forecast a projected growth rate between 5.5% and 5.8% in 2021, he specified.
The document stresses that Morocco has embarked on a new phase based on an innovative vision of development founded on a deep understanding of the current crisis.
It is in this framework and on the basis of the royal guidelines during the Throne Speech that the Prime Minister has transmitted to the ministers the traditional framing letter for the preparation of the 2022 Finance Bill, adding that this project takes into account structural transformations with an impact at all levels, particularly with regard to the country’s health, economic, food, energy and digital sovereignty.
Based on the conclusions of the Special Commission on the Development Model (CSMD), the government intends to accelerate and complete the administrative reform projects, through the simplification of procedures, digitization and the activation of the charter of administrative decentralization. The aim is to rehabilitate the administration and make it an effective development tool at the service of users.
