Morocco Summons Algerian Ambassador Over Diplomatic Spat and Espionage Claims

After the serious accusations of the spokesman of the Algerian presidency on the former Moroccan consul in Oran, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita summoned, on Tuesday, June 9, the Algerian ambassador accredited to Morocco to clarify the matter.
The "untruths" formulated in Algiers were at the heart of this meeting between the head of Moroccan diplomacy and the Algerian ambassador accredited to Morocco, reports Le360.
During a media outing, the spokesman for the Algerian presidency, Oussaid Belaïd, had claimed that Algeria had demanded the departure of the former Moroccan consul in Oran because of his behavior which was predictable. "We discovered that it is an agent of the Moroccan intelligence services who was appointed consul in Oran for other reasons," he had added. Yet the former Moroccan Consul General in Oran, Boutaher Aherdane, began his international career as a diplomat in 1995, in Oran.
These statements had been described as "ridiculous" by the head of Moroccan diplomacy. According to him, Morocco has never received a request demanding the departure of its ambassador from Algerian territory. This recall was at the exclusive initiative of Morocco, he recalls.
The announced meeting between the two diplomats therefore aims, it is indicated, to restore the truth concerning these serious accusations. For the moment, nothing has filtered out about this meeting.
