Morocco’s Sports Minister Cites Luck, Pressure in Atlas Lions’ AFCON Exit

Speaking on the early elimination of the Atlas Lions against the Benin Squirrels, Sports Minister Rachid Talbi Alami believes that lack of luck and pressure got the better of the Moroccan players.
Questioned in the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami announced the establishment of a technical commission within the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) to determine the reasons for this humiliating elimination.
In addition to those put forward, the Minister decried the poor refereeing, which deprived Morocco of another penalty, before the one missed by Hakim Ziyech, in stoppage time.
Rachid Talbi Alami also justified Ziyech’s missed penalty by the high temperatures. According to the Minister, this setback is a tradition with great players, estimating that the Atlas Lions did not fail after eliminating great nations in the group stages.
