Morocco’s King Orders Probe into National Team’s Early Africa Cup Exit

The premature elimination of the "Atlas Lions" provoked reactions from both the Moroccan public and the Royal Palace. King Mohammed VI has asked for explanations on the reasons behind the failure of the national team, during the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) in Egypt.
In its edition this week, the newspaper Al Ayam reports that the Sovereign has ordered the creation of a Technical Commission within the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), to investigate the reasons justifying the debacle of the national team during the 2019 CAN.
According to the newspaper, this initiative should cause an earthquake within the Moroccan football world, especially since the failure of the "Atlas Lions" is directly attributed to the National Technical Directorate, previously led by Nacer Larguet. The latter, who was at the head of the first Football Academy in Morocco, had requested large budgets to give birth to a new generation of players, capable of worthily representing national football.
Let us recall that the Atlas Lions were eliminated in the round of 16 of the 2019 CAN by the "Squirrels" of Benin. Their early exit had provoked strong reactions from the Moroccan public.
